Good sports stories are the ones that transcend the passing of a ball from player to player and the accumulation of points.
A good sports story is a human drama, and Friday’s night’s football game — New Braunfels vs. Seguin — is exactly that.
As New Braunfels cheers from the stands on Friday, we will be cheering about so much more than the win.
For months, the band, the players and the cheerleaders have been practicing for hours in the summer heat. They have been preparing for this moment — when they will be released from the chute onto the field.
And we have been watching them for months in anticipation.
We will be cheering for the beginning of high school football season in Texas — an epic four months of seeing old friends in the stands and beating old rivals. And what better way to kick it all off than a game against the oldest rival of all?
The rivalry between Seguin and New Braunfels is the oldest high school football rivalry in Texas.
This is the original Friday Night Lights.
