The volleyball postseason begins Tuesday and Comal County has three teams in the playoffs.
New Braunfels (23-19, 10-6), which finished fourth in District 26-5A, will face 25-5A champion Austin Westlake on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Seguin High School.
The Chaparrals (33-6, 13-0) are on a 16-game winning streak and are led by Sara Shaw with 285 kills and Tessa Hunt with team-high in aces (49) and digs (494) this season.
“We feel good going into the playoffs,” NB coach Phyllis Fowler said. “We had some really good matches at the end of the regular season, but we just didn’t bring our “A” game against the Rangers.
“They’re ready for this.”
Smithson Valley (25-14, 10-6) travels to Lehman High School for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday against 25-5A runner-up Austin Bowie (24-11, 11-2).
The Bulldogs are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have been solid leading up to the playoffs.
Ranger coach Liana Gombert hopes her team is peaking at the right time of the season.
“We’ve got some bodies healthy and we’re finally playing pretty well,” said Gombert after Tuesday’s game against Roosevelt. “Our transition is smoother and our defense has been playing really good. What we need to improve on is how we respond during pressure situations.”
For Canyon Lake, the playoffs are a foreign land, as the Hawks earned their first playoff berth in school history by securing the third and final playoff spot.
Canyon Lake coach Nicole Creek has done a great job getting her team to ready to play every night, but nothing can prepare the Hawks for what they’ll face in the playoffs.
The Hawks (25-14, 5-5) will play Devine (28-8, 8-2) in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center in San Antonio.
“It is an exciting time for our team right now,” Creek said. “We feel we’re ready for the postseason since we played Wimberley and that had a playoff atmosphere to it.
“We’re not satisfied with just making the playoffs. We want to make some noise.”
