Reuben Ray Johnson was born July 30th, 1930 in Lott, Texas and passed away on Nov. 22, 2009 in New Braunfels surrounded by family and friends. Reuben was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1962.
Reuben was preceded in death by his father John Franklin Johnson and his mother Janie Barganier Johnson, and brothers Frank Johnson, Robert Johnson, Comer Johnson, and sisters Mattie Belle McSpaden and Bertie Green.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Dorothy Jean Johnson, three daughters Brenda Fullenwider and husband Frank, Karen Finnegan and husband Dan, Cynthia Burns and husband Gene. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Sarah Fullenwider, Franklin Fullenwider, Teresa Fitzjerald, Trevor Hedley, Garrett Hedley, Brittany Burns and Brooke Burns and six great grandchildren, a brother Arthur Johnson and wife Irene, sister-in-law Ada Mae Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Reuben married the love of his life Dorothy Jean Abrameit on Dec. 31, 1953. He worked for Mission Valley Mills and became a licensed barber in 1962. He and his brother Arthur owned and operated Johnson’s Barber Shop in downtown New Braunfels as well built and sold houses throughout New Braunfels. He enjoyed gardening, camping, dominoes and spending time with his family and friends. He devoted much time in teaching others about the Bible.
Visitation began at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 at Zoeller Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at the Zoeller Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at the Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.
Contributions can be made to the building fund for the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
