Dr. Belinda Pustka announced in June she would be retiring from the post of Superintendent in the Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District. Dr. Pustka has served as superintendent for SCUCISD since July 2002.

Since her announcement, the district’s Board of Trustees began an extensive search for a new superintendent, employing the Texas Association of School Boards to serve as a headhunter for a new superintendent.

Community input has been a large part of the district’s search.

Three community hearings were held on Sept. 22 and 23 for public input and education on the selection process.

In addition, community members might go online to the school district’s Web site and vote on the qualities and characteristics they expect out of a new superintendent.

“Dec. 9 is the first day the public should hear that we have a finalist,” said George Ricks, SCUCISD school board president. Beyond the community hearings, Ricks said the board received and is still seeking input from teachers and staff. “I know this process pretty well. I fortunately was on the board when we found Dr. Pustka. It’s pretty efficient,” Ricks said.

“We should have someone ready to start by the time I leave in January,” said Superintendent Pustka.
