Canyon Lake volleyball has joined forces with the Hawk football team to create a buzz in the Hill Country.
The Hawk volleyball squad clinched their playoff berth with a thrilling five-set win over Banderas on Oct. 23.
This marks the first playoff berth for Canyon Lake in school history, as they join the Hawk football team, who clinched a spot in the postseason at home last week against Fredericksburg.
“When we knew we were in the playoffs the girls were in tears,” Canyon Lake coach Nicole Creek said. “All of them grabbed their cell phones and started texting their friends and relatives.”
Creek said it was a big relief because she knew her team had worked so hard all season for a chance to play in the postseason.
“I couldn’t sleep at all the week before that game,” Creek said. “I was so proud of my team. I’ve seen the confidence level in this group get higher and higher from the first day of practice.”
The volleyball postseason begins tonight with the Hawks playing Devine at 6:30 p.m. at the Alamo Convocation Center in San Antonio.
New Braunfels plays 25-5A champion Austin Westlake on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Seguin High School.
Smithson Valley travels to Lehman High School for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday against 25-5A runner-up Austin Bowie.
