Published November 28, 2007

The accolade they really want is three weeks away, but the New Braunfels Unicorns have to be honored by the honor they received late Tuesday.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football announced that the Unicorns as its Class 4A “Army Strong Team of the Week” following its 35-3 victory over the Alamo Heights Mules.

The press release said the Unicorns were chosen for this honor “because of their commitment to loyalty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage and teamwork.”

“The Mules are the 4A kings no more, while the Unicorns march on,” said Adam Hochfelder, general manager of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

The award will be presented to the team at a time to be determined later this week.

“The U.S. Army is very proud of the student-athletes at New Braunfels who demonstrate the qualities exhibited within the Army – those include leadership, commitment to excellence and a desire to make a difference as a member of a team,” said Captain Robert Shadowens, San Antonio Recruiting Company Commander. “Who knows? We just might see some of the Unicorns playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, or the college level, or maybe the pros.”
