New Braunfels basketaball fans enjoyed a little madness on Thursday night.
The Unicorn boys’ and girls’ basketball teams kicked off the upcoming season with the fourth annual Midday Madness that gave the fans a quick preview of what is to come from New Braunfels basketball this season.
“I love this event,” New Braunfels’ Dylan Dahse said. “This really allows the fans to come to practice and see what we do on a daily basis.
“I love the excitement.”
The excitement in the community generated by the event was the sole reason for putting on this event.
“We (former coach Chris Dial) started brainstorming one day for a way to generate some buzz in the community,” Unicorn coach Gregg Woodall said. “We followed what the college teams were doing with Midnight Madness.”
The event features a 3-point contest and full-court layup competitions pitting the boys against the girls.
The event also featured a 5-on-5 scrimmage.
The duo of Katie Hittle and Ashley Pipper won the 3-point contest over the boys, who won the full-court layup event.
“It’s really good to see everyone come out to see us and know we have that kind of support,” Hittle said. “The competitions are fun too. It’s fun beating the boys.”
The boys’ season kicks off Nov. 21 when they host Schertz Clemens, while the girls travel to face Clemens on Nov. 10
