Sammy Laine Zeller

Sammy Laine Zeller came to this earth Jan. 7, 1924 to Samuel and Willie Elliott in Waco, Texas, and left his earth Nov. 19, 2009 at her residence, surrounded by family. She was the oldest of five children. She is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Urish of Green Valley, Illinois and Nell Johnson of San Antonio. She graduated from Waco High School in 1942.

Sammy married Clinton (Doug) Donaldson on May 20, 1945 and from this marriage there were six children, two of which died shortly after birth. Surviving children are Jeffery Donaldson and wife, Nancy of Oklahoma, Sammy Main and husband, Daniel of Kerrville; daughter in law, Susan Donaldson of Kerrville; Rebecca Donaldson Stigers. Sons, Steven and Daniel, preceded her in death. Grandchildren are Tess, Wanda, Jeff, Sara, Valerie, Clinton, Kathy, Kalin and Brian, (Jeff’s children); Savage, Carie, James and Michael (Steve’s); Daniel, Patrick and Jennifer (Dan’s); Raechel and Chris, Adam, Teyjon, Miles and Jesse (Sammy’s).

Sammy retired from Comal County Sheriff's Department in October of 2000 and moved to the Hill Country, where she met her closest friend, Ann Burlew. She was a dedicated BINGO player at both the VFW and the American Legion. She lived her life to the fullest and loved many.

Her life revolved around her four great-grandchildren, Chloe, Cory and Dylan. Chloe was the love of her life, Cory was her shy guy and, well, Dylan, he was her Dill Pill and her newest one Gunner, who she called Eli Pumpkin Pie. There are too many great-grandchildren to mention all of their names, but her legacy will live forever in them and be passed on for endless generations to share.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their assistance in her final days. There will be a visitation on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, 5 to 7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1480, Kerrville, Texas in memory of Sammy L. Zeller. The family invites you to send condolences at www.grimesfuneralchapels.com by selecting the “Send Condolences” link.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
