The Canyon Lake Gorge must look like another planet to director Robert Rodriguez.
Rodriguez’s Austin-based film company Troublemaker Studios used the gorge all day on Wednesday, Nov. 18, to film the next installment of the sci-fi thriller “Predator” film series, titled “Predators.”
Instead of the original film’s Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura, actors Adrien Brody, Danny Trejo and Alice Braga were here for the movie shoot after a month of filming in Hawaii.
The movie’s expected release is June 2010.
The Canyon Lake Gorge was created after the floods of 2002, when the spillway at Canyon Lake crested, carving the gorge out of the limestone beneath, exposing the geographic formations and scattering boulders near the spillway.
“They filmed just below the spillway where there are boulders,” said Mandy Stewart, president of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce. “I guess that’s good for an alien landscape.”
