Mr. and Mrs. Rhett Charles Hubertus

Family and friends gathered together on Saturday, June 27, 2009, for a delayed wedding reception in honor of Rhett and Ayaka Hubertus. The couple was married on Nov. 7, 2008, in a small outdoor ceremony at the Green Belt Nature Area in Austin.

Parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hubertus of Seguin and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Clayton of New Braunfels, hosted the afternoon reception and meal at the Hubertus farm in Seguin. Guests came from as far away as Yokohama, Japan, including the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.Sadao Koyanagi, and her brother, Katsumasa Koyanagi.

The date of the reception was significant as this was the anniversary of the groom's late maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reynold C. Heimer of New Braunfels. Rhett's paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Edgar P. Hubertus of New Braunfels, and Ayaka's grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. Kunisuke Koyanagi of Kyoto, Japan, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Madoka Okabe of Fukuoka, Japan.

Along with their day jobs, the bride and groom are both drummers in the bands Monkey Town and Black Panda. In keeping with the drummer theme, the cake table highlighted a bride and groom made of drumsticks standing behind a miniature drum set made to look like the couple's. Covering the cake table was a linen blend tablecloth cross stitched by the groom's late grandmother, Della Heimer. The bride's cake and groom's cake were combined on a 3 tier cake stand and decorated with fresh daisies and silk butterflies. The groom's grandmother, Allene Hubertus, and aunt, Florence Sultemeier, made and decorated the cakes.

Rhett graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 2002 with a degree in resource and environmental studies and is a manager at Terry Sayther Automotive. Ayaka graduated from Austin Community College in 2008 with a degree in biotechnology and is a lab assistant with Luminex. They live and work in Austin and are looking forward to an extended honeymoon in Japan at a later date.
