SAN ANTONIO — Canyon’s Scott Jonsson took first place (50.60) in the 100-yard freestyle event at a recent dual meet at Northside Natatorium in San Antonio.
Jonsson placed third (2:09.97) in the 200-yard individual medley and was a member of the first place (1:38.94) 200-yard freestyle relay and fourth place (1:55.91) 200-yard medley relay teams.
Jonsson’s teammates on the relay teams were Jonathan Volz, Robby Pier and Ethan Pauling.
Pier placed second (1:59.76) in the 200-yard freelstyle and second (5:22.43) in the 500-yard freestyle marathon.
Pauling placed fourth (2:13.61) in the 200 free and Volz had a fifth place (26.67) finish in the 50-yard freestyle.
On the girls’ side, senior Carly Covington had a solid meet, as she placed third (2:14.47) in the 200-yard freestyle and fifth place (1:19.60) in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Covington also was a member of the Cougarette 200-yard medley relay team that placed fourth (2:10.87) and fifth place (1:59.01) in the 200-yard freestyle event.
Other notable finishes for Canyon was senior Sofia Schmidt, who placed fifth (28:37) in the 50-yard freestyle and trio of Cougars in the 100-yard breaststroke. Nico Gentry placed second (1:25.51), John Terrell finished in third place (1:30.19) and Dalton Perry placed fourth (1:32.05) in the event.
