Symptoms of too much fruit juice

same as those of too much alcohol

I have consistently been a patron of Wassailfest and in all the years I have attended this event with my husband, we cannot recall one incident of anyone appearing to have overindulged.

The establishments in downtown New Braunfels are extremely diligent and conscientious about informing you of which one has alcohol in it and which one does not. It would be really difficult to actually get inebriated when they add so little alcohol to a big container of all sorts of fruit juices, and offerings being in such small quantities. I, too, was ill after attending a Wassailfest, simply because I imbibed more than I should have of the straight wassail, and any time you drink several cups of any type of acidic fruit drinks, you are going to get a stomachache and be ill and have a headache. Acidic fruit juices are extremely hard to digest.

Wassailfest is a family event, just as fair days and Wurstfest are. If we are talking about alcohol readily available to family members, these two events have Wassailfest beaten hands-down. If we are talking about bans, then lets go all the way and ban alcohol from the other two family events where you can drink all you want and get in a car and go home.

Parents should be responsible

for children at Wassailfest

The City’s recent proposal on banning alcohol during Wassailfest should not be a discussion at all. I feel that Wassailfest is the only event that truly caters to New Braunfels residents and tradition should trump stupidity.

Why not hold the parents responsible for their children’s actions? Why is everyone so quick to call on the government to solve its problems? Personal responsibility to one’s family and self should be priority. Parenting is a noble and hard job. When parents don’t hold themselves accountable for their children’s actions, it only teaches them that government is a solution and not an intrusion in our lives.

Trash on the river

Anyone who has spent time on the river knows that the biggest problem is not the initial intent of the people putting the trash in a trash receptacle. The biggest problem is keeping it there.

Sure there are those that don’t give a rip about saving the cans and putting them in containers. Those folks are not the majority.

Floaters are in a environment that they seldom are in. On vacation, floating on an object not made for the use at hand, in the middle of a river, with a cooler and a trash bag tied to you.(sounds like fun, doesn’t it?)

The bag that’s given to the floater works for a while. But it’s not standing in the corner in the kitchen. It’s floating beside you. Floating and after a while allowing the contents to escape.

Then it’s gone and the guy in the tube more than likely didn’t know it ever left him.

I always tell my friends who come to the river:

“If you want it when you get off the river, don’t bring it to the river”.

Landa Park Golf Course funds ill spent

It’s hard to believe the city is going to spend $4 million, or whatever, on Landa Park Golf Course.

It’s not being taken care of now: There are eight sand traps that are not being raked; There are four water hazards that they do not keep water in; You are still going to have six holes with utility poles, wires and guy wires.

You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. The only thing the Landa course needs is a good irrigation system. Landa golf course will still be a municipal, and a municipal course should primarily be fore the citizens of New Braunfels. Most of the weekday play are senior citizens. If you go up on fees, you’ll lose a lot of revenue.

Wake up and take a closer look before you waste all that money.
