26-5A Volleyball: Rangers down Unicorns

Lauryn Lozano and Alli Titzman each had 14 kills and Paige Hamilton had 36 digs to lead Smithson Valley past cross-county rival New Braunfels 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 25-18 in a one-game tiebreaker Friday night at Canyon High School.
With the win, the Rangers will face Austin Bowie in round one of the playoffs on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Hays Lehman High School.
The Unicorns will travel to Seguin to play Austin Westlake at 7:30 p.m.
New Braunfels fought hard, taking the second game and pushing the third to the brink, before the Rangers took command.
Angela Lowak led the Unicorns with 15 kills, while Demi Payne had seven blocks and an ace and M’Kenzie Steele finished with 56 assists.
Elizabeth Pawelek and Kyndall Carter had 26 and 24 assists, respectively, and Macie McKay had nine kills and two blocks for the Rangers.
