The Canyon boys soccer club shrugged off a two-goal deficit in the first half of Friday night’s District 26-6A match with Judson and still ended up with a relatively comfortable victory at Cougar Stadium.
Owen Feagler recorded a hat trick to outscore the visiting Rockets by himself and help lift the Cougars to a 5-2 triumph — their second league win in a row. Head coach Rob Rush’s team is now 9-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in 26-6A.
Judson began the match by striking for goals in the 10th and 19th minutes, respectively, but Peyton Foytik sliced Canyon’s deficit in half with his tally in the 28th minute that came off a pass from Zeke Atampi.
The Cougars trailed 2-1 at intermission, but Feagler quickly turned the tide with three consecutive goals to begin the second half. Feagler found the back of the net in the 41st, 48th and 50th minutes to put his team ahead for good. Those tallies were set up by respective assists from Chino Acosta, Luke Suarez and Acosta once again.
Canyon’s Max Batterton provided the dagger in the 63rd minute thanks to a pass from Isaac Hawkins.
Goalkeeper Jio Lopez finished the evening with six saves and rebounded nicely after allowing a pair of tallies in the first half.
The Cougars are now scheduled to face Steele this Tuesday night on the road.
