The Unicorns flexed enough muscle to hold off Canyon for a 35-21 victory Friday night at home during the 39th Wurst Bowl.

When the situation got dire, New Braunfels (3-0) turned to its defense and running game, which both stood tall down the stretch. After the Cougars (1-2) rallied to within 28-21 with 5:40 left to play, the Unicorns drove 49 yards and secured the triumph after Ryker Purdy plowed across the goal line for a 1-yard touchdown run.
