The New Braunfels Christian Academy boys put on an offensive showcase Friday night at home in their regular season finale.
The Wildcats (21-10) treated their home fans to an 88-67 victory against San Marcos Hill Country on senior night to pick up some serious momentum headed into the TAPPS Class 3A playoffs.
“It took a while, but we finally found our rhythm offensively and slowed them in the second half,” NBCA head coach Tony Brubaker said. “Give Hill Country some credit as they made some shots and got to the line and made free throws. It was a good chance for us to get some different looks to prepare for the playoffs.”
New Braunfels Christian held an 18-14 lead after the opening stanza and increased it to 42-37 after an entertaining second period. The Wildcats continued to light up the scoreboard in the final two quarters and used a 27-12 run to blow the game wide open.
Sophomore point guard Hayden Holcombe paced NBCA with his 20 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the win. Seniors Ethan Herring and Jordan Hassmann added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Senior Kade Garner finished in double figures as well with 11 points.
Peyton Flack tallied a game-high 34 points for the Rams, but it wasn’t enough to carry the visitors past the Wildcats.
New Braunfels Christian Academy will now await word on which team it will face in the opening round of the upcoming TAPPS postseason.
