SCHERTZ — The Lady Rangers gave District 26-6A leader Clemens a serious battle Friday night on the road, but the Lady Buffs emerged with a 2-1 triumph at Lehnhoff Stadium.

Smithson Valley (8-5-3, 4-2-2) received its goal from Haley Smith in the second half thanks to an assist from Sarah Cyphers. Goalkeeper Melyna Martinez made three saves in the loss.

Clemens (11-3-2, 7-0-1) maintained its lead in the district standings with six league matches left to play. The Lady Buffs’ tallies came courtesy of Mya Sheridan and Alex Rudd.

Head coach Jason Adkins’ Lady Rangers will now prepare to host Canyon Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m.

Boys blanked by Buffs

SPRING BRANCH — The Smithson Valley boys absorbed a 4-0 defeat Friday night at Ranger Stadium at the hands of Clemens.

The Rangers (7-7-4, 4-4) saw goalkeepers Micah Jenkins and Andrew Kelley record eight and five saves, respectively, in the setback.

Smithson Valley, which is currently fourth in the 26-6A standings, is scheduled to travel to New Braunfels to face Canyon Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m.

Hawks scorch Bandera

FISCHER — Josh Sczech provided a hat trick Friday night to fuel a 4-0 win over Bandera at home in District 28-4A play.

Canyon Lake (10-4-2, 1-2) also got a goal from Trenton Lorett, while Sczech and Josh Nelson each delivered assists. The win was the Hawks’ first in district play after suffering losses to Boerne and Wimberley.

Canyon Lake is now slated to hit the road to take on Fredericksburg Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
