All-star selection

Smithson Valley pole vaulter Avianna Trinidad capped an incredible junior season by recently being named a Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star selection for Class 5A and 6A.

Trinidad earned a spot at the state track and field meet in Austin after finishing the Region IV-6A meet as the top remaining qualifier for the event. Trindad received a wild-card berth at the state finals and vaulted her way to a silver medal after nearly claiming gold.

Trinidad cleared 12-09, but Sarah Tackitt of Wolfforth Frenship prevailed in a vault-off during a soggy morning at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

All athletes must be juniors to be eligible for TGCA All-Star status. Trinidad was joined on the 5A and 6A list by fellow District 26-6A competitor Kaycee Brown of Judson.

Trinidad is coached by Smithson Valley’s Doug Ulbricht. The Rangers’ head track and field coach is Brittney Lanehart.
