Opal Lois Nichols Haley

Opal Lois Nichols Haley, 99, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away on December 31, 2016. She was born on November 6, 1917 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Henry Horace Nichols and Viva Virginia Fitzgerald. Lois married the love of her life, William “Bill” Buford Haley, on August 31, 1940. The two were married for 61 years and enjoyed traveling together, as well as, spending time with family and friends.

Lois was a God fearing woman, a loving wife, mother, and sister, doting Grannie and a fun friend.  She led a full and adventurous life. As a teenager she paid one dollar to take a bi-plane ride on a whim with her friend and without parental approval.  She built tanks at a factory in California to help with the war effort during World War II. Alongside Bill, she raised her two daughters, as well as, helped raise several of her grandchildren.  She was the best at spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including plenty of sweet treats and lots of hugs and hand holds.  Most recently, she hit the casino for a little slot machine action to celebrate her 99th birthday.

Lois will be missed by many. Her friends and family will cherish their time spent with her.  She will always be remembered with love and laughter.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, her sisters, Loretta Sanders and Anne Hardy, daughter, Sarah Dancy, and granddaughter, JoLynn Smith. She is survived by her sisters, Pauline Sunday and Naomi Radford; daughter Lois Anne Weisman and husband Johnny; Grandchildren, Jackie Hays, Brenda Helgren and husband James, Henning Sandburg, Elizabeth Zwak and husband Chris; great-grandchildren Christina, Danny, Aundrea, Kendra, Anne Marie, and John William; and great-great-grandchild Kaycie Anne.
