Elroy Ben Seeger
Posted: July 31, 2015 - 10:57 pm

Elroy Ben Seeger, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. Elroy was born on May 20, 1932 in Karnes City, Tx. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War.  Returning home, Elroy married Ruby Hedtke on October 20, 1956. They moved to San Antonio where he worked in construction and at a chemical company before finding his true calling.  In 1965, Elroy accepted the position to work at Gary Job Corp. Center in San Marco, Tx. His mission there was to help young adults receive a second chance in life by teaching them a trade.  Elroy instructed students on how to operate heavy equipment. There was not a piece of equipment made that he could not operate.  Over the next 30 years he helped mentor students in many other trades.   After retiring in 1995, he continued his hobbies in gardening and doing repair work for his family and throughout the neighborhood. Elroy proved he had a true “green thumb” by receiving multiple awards for Master Gardener of New Braunfels.  He will be remembered for being a great husband, honorable father, and a wonderful mentor.  Papa’s motto was, “If I can’t grow it, you don’t need to eat it” and “If it’s broke and I can’t fix it, it was junk anyway.”

Milton F. Kaderli
Posted: July 31, 2015 - 10:55 pm

Milton F. Kaderli, a lifelong resident of Comal County, passed away July 28, 2015 at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  Milton was born on September 17, 1922 to Edwin and Edda (Kuhn) Kaderli at the Kaderli Ranch in the Demi-John Bend area of western Comal County.  He was the youngest of three children in the family and was the great-grandson of Johann Kaderli, one of the founding members of New Braunfels.  At the age of 6 he began attending the original Rebecca Creek School, which was a one room schoolhouse for grades 1 through 7.  All of the students rode their horses to school - in Milton’s case it was about a two mile ride.  He then became the first member of his family to attend high school and graduated from New Braunfels High as salutatorian of what became known as the “Great Class of 1939”.  After high school, he went to work for George Nowotny in the insurance business.  This would lead to a career as an insurance agent that lasted for 60 years.  In early 1942, Milton married his high school sweetheart, Mary Buske, and soon thereafter enlisted in the Army Air Corp.  He was initially stationed at Randolph Field, but soon shipped off to England.  He landed at Omaha Beach in France seventeen days after D-Day in June 1944 and served throughout Europe for the remainder of the war, reaching the rank of staff sergeant.  After the war, he returned to New Braunfels, resumed his insurance career, and became involved in many civic organizations. Even before the war, he had become a member of the Jaycees and in 1951 he was named “Young Man of the Year” by that organization.  He was a 70 year member of the New Braunfels Noon Lion’s Club, serving as that organization’s president in 1961.  During the 1960s, Milton became very involved with the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman of the Board in 1968.  It was about this time he also became active in Wurstfest.  He served as president in 1973 and was selected as “Grosse Opa” in 1975.  He then got quite involved with the Sophienburg Museum, serving as treasurer for much of the 1980s.   He was recently recognized as a 70 year member of the American Legion, and he was active as well with the New Braunfels Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, VFW, Eagles, and the Germania Farmer Verein.  He absolutely loved New Braunfels and always felt that it was important to give back to the community in any way he could.  In 2010, in recognition of his civic contributions, he was named a New Braunfels Living Legend.  Milton and his wife, Mary loved to bowl and travel.  They were members of Solms 9 Pin Bowling Club for over 30 years.  In the 1970s, they began to attend Lion’s Club International Conventions and that gave them the opportunity to meet people from all over the world.  Milton enjoyed learning from others and he corresponded with many of these people until just shortly before his death.  Milton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years, Mary Kaderli, and his brother Alwin Kaderli.  He is survived by his sister, Lola Heitkamp of Corpus Christi, his son and daughter-in-law, John and Janet Kaderli of New Braunfels, his grandson, Paul Kaderli of Austin, numerous nieces and nephews, and one very special friend, Doris Salge, and all the members of her family.   The family wishes to thank Dr. Jorge Alvarez, Dr. Filomino Gonzales, Dr. Lin Johnson, and Dr. Frank Rubalcava for all their help over the years, as well as Mandy, Kathy, Lupe, and Anna from Olivia Kay’s Personal Care Home for their help in caring for Milton over the past 6 months.  There will be a visitation at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home from Noon to 8 PM Saturday, August 1 and from 10 AM to 8 PM Sunday, August 2 with the family being present from 5 to 7 PM on Sunday. The funeral service will be at 2 PM Monday August 3 at First Protestant Church with Reverend Ardie Kendig officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.  You are invited to sign the guestbook at www.doeppenschmidtfuneralhome.com
