As the holiday season approaches, Comal Independent School District Chef Mario Perez will lead a Safe Holiday Cooking program from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in the Westside Community Center lunchroom, 2932 South Interstate 35 frontage road in New Braunfels.

During the event sponsored by New Braunfels Public Library, the renowned local chef will demonstrate techniques for preparing and deboning a turkey and ways to make gravy, dressing, and cranberry sauce from scratch. Attendees at the free event will sample dishes, learn ways to avoid food-borne cooking illnesses and have chances to win a free turkey.

“Chef Mario’s programs are always fun and educational,” said Alix Samuels, public service librarian. “We’re excited to have him lead this event again, which will surely provide participants with useful tips and techniques for cooking over the holidays.”

Participants can pre-register at or by calling WCC at 830-221-4301. For more on the event, and other library programs, call WCC’s office at 830-221-4630 or New Braunfels Public Library at 830-221-4300.
