NEW BRAUNFELS — Two Austin men were arrested for trying to steal kitchen appliances from the New Braunfels Kohl’s, police said.

Ross Landry and Robert Scales, both 27, were arrested in the parking lot of Kohl’s on Tuesday afternoon after trying to steal a pair of mixers, valued at around $550 each, said New Braunfels Police Department Capt. John McDonald.

McDonald said police were called by the store’s loss prevention department at around 1 p.m. According to police, Landry was attempting to steal two mixers and take them out through the building’s emergency back door.

“He damaged the alarm (valued at $600) on the emergency door so it wouldn’t go off and stacked the mixers there,” he said. “He was the interrupted by a staff member who approached him.”

McDonald said Landry then left the store and got into a car driven by Scales. However, before they could leave, police cruisers arrived on the scene.

Upon investigation, McDonald said, police found a small amount of marijuana in the car. They also discovered Landry had two outstanding warrants in Travis County for bail jumping/failure to appear for driving while license invalid, and driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.

The two were arrested and taken to Comal County Jail without further incident, McDonald said.

Along with his Travis County charges, Landry is charged with theft of property, less than $1,500, with two or more previous convictions, and criminal mischief, between $500 and $1,500. His bond was set at $11,100, which was paid for on Wednesday.

Scales is charged with theft of property, between $500 and $1,500; possession of marijuana, less than two ounces; and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,350, which was also paid for on Wednesday.
