Winery U teaches Texas wine history

NEW BRAUNFELS — How does the oldest winery in the state survive prohibition? What is the real history of Texas wines?

These are the pressing questions that more than 20 class participants found the answers to at Saturday’s Winery U at Dry Comal Creek Vineyards and Winery, as they learned how three Texas Tech chemistry professors started a winery and how the oldest winery in Texas — the Val Verde Winery in Del Rio — survived prohibition by making sacramental wine.
