Based on employee feedback, New Braunfels ISD trustees on Monday chose not to extend the district’s participation in an expired federal mandate that had provided additional COVID-related paid sick leave to employees.

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which expired Dec. 31, was a federal mandate requiring employers to provide a one-time benefit for employees to take two weeks — up to 80 hours — of paid sick leave if they needed to quarantine with COVID-19 symptoms.
