Comal County commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a resolutionthat would allow the county to raise its effective 2020 rate to 8% or less.

Adoption of the measure does not mean the tax rate will go up by 8%, however. It enables the governing body to propose a higher tax rate up to that threshold without voter approval during a disaster.

I am a conservative. That being said, the local government has hard (physical) infrastructure. As in your house, physical infrastructure is in need of constant maintenance, and parts need to be upgraded by the demand of the users. (Roads, signs, markings, bridges, buildings). Those are fixed costs, that increase with inflation regardless of any political or disaster. Those costs must be paid by the local citizens, as they demanded to have those assets. So, keep that in mind when grumbling about the tax increas.
