The family of a 7-year-old boy is grieving after he was attacked and killed by multiple dogs at a home in the Canyon Lake area on Saturday evening.
Comal County Sheriff’s Office officials said Gaege Ramirez was airlifted to University Hospital in San Antonio after the attack where he died as a result of his injuries.
“Saturday evening just after 6 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call reporting a boy had been attacked by several dogs at a residence,” CCSO spokesperson Jennifer Smith said. “The 7-year-old victim was found with severe lacerations all over the body.”
CCSO Capt. Tommy Ward said the incident took place at the 2100 block of Rocky Ridge Loop in Canyon Lake.
Smith said the animal control department took control of the dogs and they’re now under observation at the shelter.
Gaege was the son of one of the Comal County District Attorney’s office investigators, and District Attorney Jennifer Tharp said her thoughts and prayers were with the family.
“Tragically, Gaege Ramirez, age 7, was taken from this Earth as a result of a dog attack out in the county,” Tharp said. “I have had the distinct privilege of knowing Gaege from time he has spent at my office with his mother, Amber Hardcastle, one of my felony investigators. The Hardcastle and Ramirez family is in our hearts and prayers during this difficult time and tragic loss.”
Ward and Smith said the case remains under investigation and the department wasn’t providing additional information as of Monday afternoon.
